I.  Steer Entries

  1. All Steers showing in the 2008 NWDJLS must have been nominated for the Oklahoma Youth Expo. 
  2. EXHIBITORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING THEIR STEER ENTRY (EAR TAG NUMBER & NOMINATED BREED) WITH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ON THE OYE WEB SITE( www.okyouthexpo.com ).

II. Steer Exhibition

  1. EXHIBITORS MAY SHOW FOUR (4) STEERS.
  2. The minimum weight of steers is 1000 pounds.  There will be no maximum weight.
  3. THERE WILL BE NO OFFICIAL WEIGHING OF STEERS PRIOR TO JUDGING.  THE EXHIBITOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WEIGHING THEIR STEERS.  AN OFFICIAL SCALE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE WEIGHING OF STEERS PRIOR TO JUDGING.
  4. Classes will be determined by weight.  The top three (3) animals in each class will be weighed upon completion of judging.  Those weighing more than five percent (5%) above the official weight will be eliminated from the show.  No reweigh attempts will be granted.
  5. STEER ENTRY CARD COPIES, SHOWING THE WEIGHT OF THE ANIMAL MUST BE TURNED INTO THE SHOW OFFICE BY 6:30 P.M., WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2008. THE WEIGHT ON THE ENTRY CARD COPY AND THE ORIGINAL FOR EACH STEER MUST MATCH.  Entry cards shall be printed or typed.  Any illegible entry cards will be discarded and entry fee forfeited.
  6. The beef show will be blow and show. The use of paint, glue/adhesives and boning soaps will not be allowed. Animals will be checked before entering the ring and violators will be disqualified.
  7. No hair coloring will be allowed in grooming of all beef exhibits.  Any attempt to alter animal color or breed characteristics including the addition of hair or other added material, natural or man-made (excluding false tail switches) is prohibited.
  8. Tooth rule:  the tooth rule is not applicable for the 2008 NWDJLS.
  9. All beef exhibits will be subject to inspection and handling by the Cattle Superintendents and/or their agents at any time.    
  10. A BREED WILL BE RECOGNIZED IF THERE IS A MINIMUM OF 10 CONFIRMED ENTRIES PER BREED.
  11. IF A BREED FAILS TO MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AS STATED ABOVE, THOSE ANIMALS MAY BE RECOGNIZED IN AN ALL OTHER BREEDS DIVISION (AOB).  IF AOB FAILS TO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT, THEN THOSE ENTRIES WILL BE SHOWN WITH CROSSBREDS.
  12. STEER SHOW ORDER WILL BE POSTED AFTER CHECK-IN.

HEIFER RULES & REGULATIONS

I.  Heifer Entries

1.      Heifers will be shown in three divisions as follows:

         Purebred: as determined by breed association

Low-percentage: as determined by breed association

Commercial (non-registered): shown by weight

2.      Ten (10) or more entries must be confirmed before the breed will be shown.  In the case of less than 10 entries, those entries will be combined with the AOB.  No entry refunds will be given. 

3.      REGISTERED Heifer classes will be pre-broken as follows:

                        Junior Heifer Calf               Born after September 1, 2007

                        Senior Heifer Calf               May 1, 2007 – August 31, 2007

                        Spring Heifer Calf               January 1, 2007 – April 30, 2007

                        Junior Yearling                    September 1, 2006 – December 31, 2006

                        Summer Yearling                 May 1, 2006 – August 31, 2006

                        Senior Yearling                    January 2, 200– April 30, 2006

4.      Heifer class sizes will be limited to 10 heifers per class.  When more than 10 heifers are entered into an age category, that age category will be split into two or more separate age classes.  Additional classes will be added at the discretion of the heifer committee.

5.      Registered heifers will comply with individual breed association rules regarding purebred status. All heifers that have been issued low-percentage papers from their respective associations will be shown in the low percentage heifer division.

6.      No substitutions allowed.

7.      Commercial Heifer classes will be determined by weight.  The top three (3) animals in each class will be weighed upon completion of judging.  Those weighing more than five percent (5%) above the official weight will be eliminated from the show.  No reweigh attempts will be granted.

8.      Commercial Heifer exhibitors will be required to provide a breeders certificate to verify ownership.

9.      Heifer breed association applications will not be accepted, registration papers only.  Registration papers in the name of the exhibitor only.  NO fax copies, NO applications and NO pending documents will be accepted.

II. Heifer Exhibition

  5. HEIFER SHOW ORDER WILL BE POSTED AFTER CHECK-IN. Divisions will be shown in order of: Purebred Division followed by Low Percentage Division, followed by Commercial Division.
  6. EACH DIVISION CHAMPION (PUREBRED, LOW PERCENTAGE, AND COMMERCIAL) WILL COMPETE FOR SUPREME CHAMPION HEIFER.  A BRONZE MEDALLION HEIFER WILL BE SELECTED.  THE SUPREME CHAMPION AND RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PREMIUM SALE .
